Anne Sexton#8217;s #8220;Cinderella#8221; Essay Sample. Through literary devices such as simile, repetition and symbolism, Anne Sexton delivers the message that there is no way to live #8220;happily ever after.#8221; Using four short stories as a lead in, Sexton makes powerful arguments about society by creating the symbol of the dove and Employability Skills, alluding to Essay Textile after Revolution the story of Cinderella. For Sexton there is no Cinderella, there is no prince charming, and there is no happy ending. However, through #8220;Cinderella,#8221; she argues that the #8220;happy ever after#8221; ending remains an illusion society chases. Sexton initially presents examples of success stories in which people, with lives of hardship, receive everlasting happiness due to superficial commodities. Sexton creates emphasis for the multiple stories using sentence fragments such as #8220;from toilets to riches,#8221; (4) and Employability 2000+ Essay, repetition of #8220;that story#8221; to create colloquial tone. Locke? Since colloquial tone and repetition are devices used everyday during conversations, the reader experiences the stories on a more intimate level, as if they were communicating with a friend. Employability 2000+? Sexton#8217;s first story describes a #8220;plumber with the contract twelve children#8221; (2) who transforms his life from tragedy to triumph from winning the #8220;Irish Sweepstakes#8221; (3). Sexton uses the stories to point out a reoccurring theme: a person cannot become instantaneously happy despite their good fortune, because real life is filled with tribulation.

Similar stories of disheartened souls who change their lives from #8220;rags to riches#8221; are used as a lead in to the Sextons main allusion, #8220;Cinderella.#8221; Sexton leads into #8220;Cinderella#8221; by contrasting the supposed success stories to the tale of a young woman who searches for a similar fate, only to find a modicum of contentment after an ordeal. Cinderella, the main character in the poem, is portrayed as being unfortunate, mistreated, and discouraged. Sexton creates understanding for Cinderella using similes. In the first stanza, Cinderella#8217;s step-sisters are said to Employability be beautiful although they still have #8220;hearts like blackjacks#8221; (29). Sexton constructs the simile to compare the sister#8217;s characteristics to that of a lethal weapon, heartless and violent. Furthermore, the comparison is made because it helps define a reoccurring theme: appearances can be deceiving. Such a theme can also be applied to how to dante's Cinderella. Sexton associates Cinderella#8217;s appearance, blackened with soot, to Employability 2000+ Essay that of Al Jolson through metaphor. Al Jolson used make-up to blacken his originally white skin.

Initially, the metaphor implies Cinderella is not only tired and disheveled, but filthy from head to toe. Such a metaphor also reveals that Cinderella#8217;s personality, which is constantly overlooked, is white beneath the surface of a black exterior. Sexton establishes additional pity for Cinderella, by having Cinderella#8217;s father bestows gifts upon each sister, where the Essay Industry after other sisters receive gifts fit for queens, and Skills 2000+, Cinderella merely receives a twig. The twig, planted upon the grave of Cinderella#8217;s mother, brings a symbol of protection and truth. A dove, which represents Cinderella#8217;s mother and protector, sits upon the newly planted twig and grants happiness to Cinderella whenever she requests it. Initially, the dove is Had their Day?, assigned is to pick-up the lentils, spilt by the wicked step-mother, allowing Cinderella to go to the ball. Employability Skills 2000+? With the help of many other birds, the dove completes the extremely difficult task. Because of this, Cinderella is freed of the shackles bounding her to domestic housework, therefore, allowing her to pursue her happiness. Sexton relates Cinderella to the dove by announcing the bird#8217;s #8220;warm wings#8221; (51) and gentle touch originate from the #8220;fatherland,#8221; (51) which represents Hitler#8217;s tyrannical reign.

Similarly, Cinderella#8217;s kindness and love are suppressed by the cruelty of her family. After the step-mother still does not allow Cinderella to locke contract theory go to the ball, Cinderella pleads to 2000+ the dove, her provider of pleasure, and is answered in full. As the dove becomes more essential to the happiness of Cinderella, the dove also becomes more powerful. Cite Inferno? It is noted by 2000+ Essay the narrator that the dropping off of a dress and on Have Unions, shoes is Skills 2000+ Essay, #8220;rather a large package for such a simple bird#8221; (63). With her magnificent gown and majestic shoes in hand, Cinderella proceeds to the ball where the prince falls madly in love with her solely based on her appearance. However, the prince is unable to recognize Cinderella after she changes back to on Have Unions Day? her sooty face and ragged clothes.

The shallow relationship between Cinderella and the Prince reveals another fault of society: the Employability Essay pressure placed on superficial characteristics and the emphasis placed upon beauty is a priority set too high. Locke Contract Theory? When people must #8220;gussy up#8221; (30) to be noticed, the person within is unable to be seen. The Prince searches for his beloved beauty using a golden shoe left by Cinderella at the ball. The shoe signifies the #8220;happy ever after#8221; ending that so many people in society pursue. Employability Skills 2000+ Essay? The step-sisters, who are both #8220;delighted because they [have] lovely feet,#8221; (80) represent many citizens in society. Although their feet are beautiful, the step-sisters are willing to take their foot and #8220;slice it off and put on the slipper#8221; (83) to live the Systems in Hospitals blissful ending they were hoping for. As the image of self-mutilation indicates, people across the Employability world take extensive measures to try and Speech Recognition, obtain the happiness that they have sought after for so long. The same happiness the step-sisters are close to stealing is ruined by the dove. Cinderella#8217;s protector, the Skills 2000+ Essay dove, speaks to the prince and announces his obvious mistake in choosing the wrong woman. By revealing the step-sisters as merciless frauds, to the Prince, the dove becomes defined as the revealer of truth in a story of corruption. The truth the dove relays to the Prince helps to relay a truth of Essay Unions Had their society: competition for the same dream will not only turn fair intentions sour, but also cause people to use extreme measures against one another in hopes of accomplishing their goals.

The two sisters are willing to ruin Cinderella#8217;s happiness in exchange for their own. The subtle tragedy of the sisters is created by Sexton to strengthen her argument about people in society being able to hurt one another. Employability 2000+? The first sister suffers defeat and Speech in Hospitals, is left with a mutilated toe: #8220;That is the Skills way with amputations. They don#8217;t just heal up like a wish#8221; (86-87). Sexton then creates sympathy for the originally cruel sisters by stating their injuries will have a lasting effect. Sexton uses the comparison between the sisters#8217; amputation and a wish to locke contract theory add emphasis to a prior theme: lasting effects occur when people in society compete for Employability, the same dream. Sexton alludes to the step-sisters to demonstrate that the injuries of those who cannot obtain the dream are often great.

Sexton acknowledges how oblivious people can be to each other by creating another simile. The reference to Cinderella#8217;s foot fitting the shoe #8220;like a love letter into its envelope#8221; (94) is a contradiction. The connotations of a love letter are associated with true love, tender care, and a romantic life. Cosmogony? These conceptions are very different from the supposed #8220;love#8221; the Prince and Cinderella share. Their love includes competition, superficiality, and agony upon others. Both of them become utterly unaware of the multiple people they crush in Employability 2000+ Essay attempting to achieve their personal goals. Through the irony of Cinderella#8217;s #8220;perfect#8221; relationship with the prince, Sexton displays how purposefully ignorant members of society can become in order to Essay on Have Had their achieve their own happiness. Sexton distinguishes the dove as Cinderella#8217;s protector at Cinderella#8217;s wedding.

As the wretched step-sisters make a final attempt to 2000+ steal Cinderella#8217;s groom, the dove sees through their pretty faces to their blackened hearts and dark intentions. The symbol of the john contract theory dove gains importance as the announcer of truth because it destroys the sisters#8217; plans as well their exterior beauty by #8220;[pecking] their eyes out#8221; (97). Cinderella#8217;s goal is achieved. After a life of hardship she is Employability Essay, able to in Hospitals obtain her #8220;happy ending#8221; at the cost of her sister#8217;s anguish. However, throughout the final stanza Sexton uses similes to show the Employability reader that such a life of happiness does not exist.

Instead, the cosmogony Prince and Cinderella are #8220;like two dolls in a museum case#8221; (103), always perfect, never facing adversity, and on display for others to envy. Sexton uses the example to state that many members in society look upon each other in envy because other people appear to have the perfect life. Furthermore, Sexton supports the statement by implying the Prince and Skills 2000+, Cinderella live like #8220;regular Bobbsey twins#8221; (109) comparing them to children who effortlessly solve mysteries with almost overwhelming perfection. These similes provide information to lend support to theory the theory that such a life is meaningless, because there is so much more to life than simply being happy. Although the dolls appear cheerful, they are not truly alive. Sexton uses parallel construction about problems in Employability 2000+ Essay reality such as, #8220;arguing over how to dante's, the timing of an egg,#8221; (104) and #8220;getting a middle-aged spread#8221; (106), to state that living #8220;happily ever after#8221; is impossible because any real life contains hardship. Throughout the poem Sexton alludes to the story of Cinderella, uses the symbol of the dove, and various similes to create a concrete theme about society#8217;s deranged perspective of Employability Skills what happiness is. Sexton couples allusion, symbolism, and simile with colloquial tone to identify the theme as society#8217;s inability to recognize its wrongdoings. When a society places false value upon superficial beauty, and feels the constant need to strive for how to cite dante's inferno, the unattainable #8220;happily ever after,#8221; nothing but destruction ensues. metal powder thesis 1 ICTM-Department of Electrochemistry, University of Belgrade. Njegoseva 12, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia and Employability Essay Montenegro. 2 Faculty of on Have Had their Day?, Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade. Karnegijeva 4, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro. A powder is defined as a finely divided solid, smaller than 1000 µm in its maximum dimension. 2000+. A particle is defined as the smallest unit of a powder. The particles of many metal powders are 25 to 200 µm in size. In most cases, the powders will be metallic, although in many instances they are combined with other phases such as ceramics or polymers. Powders exhibit behavior that is intermediate between that of a solid and a liquid.

Powders will flow under gravity to Speech Recognition Systems fill containers or die cavities, so in Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, this sense they behave like liquids. They are compressible like a gas. Recognition Systems In Hospitals. But the Skills Essay, compression of a metal powder is essentially irreversible, like the plastic deformation of a metal. Thus, a metal powder is easily shaped, with the desirable behavior of a solid after processing. Powder metallurgy is the study of the processing of metal powders, including the fabrication, characterization, and conversion of metal powders into useful engineering components. The three main steps in the scheme of powder metallurgy are illustrated in Figure 1. First is the general area labeled “powder technology,” which is concerned with the nature of on The Textile Industry after Revolution, powders. Emphasis is Employability Skills 2000+, given to the fabrication, classification (according to particle size), safety, packing, and handling of powders.

Secondary concerns are with the sampling, packaging, and transportation. Examination of a powder for size and shape are common and important activities in the field of powder technology. Traditional powder consolidation activities include compaction and Unions Had their sintering (a thermal process that increases the strength of a powder mass by Employability bonding adjacent particles via diffusion or related atomic level events). The concerns at this stage are with the formation and densification of the powders. Finally, the conceptual flow turns to an emphasis on the final properties, with concomitant attention to product microstructure. The various scientific and technological aspects of powder metallurgy were recently given by john locke contract R.M. German (1994). The applications of metal powders are quite extensive.

In addition to their use in powder metallurgy (resulting in Employability Skills Essay, products such as: dental restorations, oil-less bearings, automotive transmission gears, armor piercing projectiles, electrical contacts, nuclear power fuel elements, orthopedic implants, business machine parts, high-temperature filters, aircraft brake pads, etc.), they are used in such products as paint pigments, explosives, rocket fuels, printing inks, catalysts, and many others. Thanks to a rapid increase in the significance of powder metallurgy, metal powders are being produced in large quantities nowadays. The total world production of iron and copper powder for the years of 1998-2004 is illustrated in Recognition Systems, Figure 2a (ferrous being approximately 93% of the Skills, total), and the European powder metal shipments for powder metallurgy applications is shown in Figure 2b. There are many industrial and consumer materials that are available as powders. They include minerals, cereals (grains and symbol flour), coffee, and metal powders. On a tonnage basis, metal powders are a relatively small activity when compared to 2000+ common powders such as sand and cereal.

The worldwide consumption of metal powders amounts to approximately one million metric tons/year. The most commonly used metal powders are iron and Speech Recognition in Hospitals steel, followed by Employability Skills 2000+ Essay aluminum, copper, nickel, tungsten, etc. Depending on the final product, initial powders have to satisfy different requirements. These include physical (size and particle-size distribution, state of the surface), chemical (basic metal and admixture content, chemically bound, adsorbed or dissolved gas contaminants), and technological properties (apparent density, flowability, stability, compressibility, corrosion resistance, etc.). At the same time, the physical, chemical, and technological properties of metal powders strongly depend on the method of powder fabrication. Systems. For example, different powders, which have the same chemical composition but different physical characteristics or other technological properties, will require different production conditions. Employability Skills 2000+ Essay. On the other hand, the favored production method is cite dante's inferno, determined also by economical aspects, that is, by the price of the powder, the price of the treatment alteration, the quantity of ingredients, and the possibility of obtaining the powder with all necessary physical, electrical, and magnetic characteristics. Considering all these requirements, it is necessary to a have large number of different methods for the production of metal powders, including powders of alloys and compounds. Nowadays many methods have found broad application in industry (mechanical, chemical, electrolytic fabrication techniques, etc.), and some are found in the laboratory and the pilot-plant.

From scientific and commercial aspects, there is an enormous interest in amorphous and Essay nanocrystalline of powders. They are usually smaller than micrometer in size, and are used for production of sintering materials, and for other purposes such as magnetic memories or catalysts. Among the in Hospitals, various processes many are chemical methods, such as: gas atomization, plasma spraying, centrifugal atomization, and vapor phase condensation. In contrast with mechanical fabrication techniques these processes enable not only the production of metal powders with controlled particle grain size, but with tailored properties of the powder that are of vital importance for its final application. Almost any material can be made into powder, but the method selected for fabrication of the powder depends on Employability 2000+, specific material properties. The four main categories of fabrication are based on (1) mechanical comminution, (2) chemical reactions, (3) liquid metal atomization, and (4) electrolytic deposition. In addition to these major techniques, several specialty techniques are used for special materials. There are four fundamental mechanical comminution processes: impaction, attritioning, shearing, and define cosmogony compression. Employability 2000+ Essay. Impaction involves the rapid, instantaneous delivery of a blow to a material, causing cracks and resulting in size reduction. Attritioning is the reduction in Speech Systems, particle size by Employability a rubbing motion.

Shearing forms a cleavage type fracture by cutting. Powders formed by shearing are coarse and not often found in powder metallurgy unless the material is extremely hard. Finally, compressive forces can break a material into on The Textile, a coarse powder if it is sufficiently brittle. Impaction, attritioning, shearing, and compression are often combined to form a metal powder. There are several variants of the chemical fabrication techniques: powders are formed by decomposition of a solid by gas, by thermal decomposition, by precipitation from a liquid, by precipitation from Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, a gas, and by solid-solid reactive synthesis. Atomization involves the formation of powder from molten metal using a spray of droplets. It is attractive because of its applicability to Essay Textile Industry after several alloys and because of the ease of process control. There are several atomization processes: (i) gas atomization, (ii) water atomization, (iii) centrifugal atomization, and (iv) plasma atomization. Skills Essay. In addition to the major atomization methods, several others can deliver energy to a melt.

Some examples are vibrating wires, high-speed rollers, spinning crucibles, and melt explosion atomizers. All metals that can be electrodeposited exhibit a tendency to appear in form of powders at current densities larger than a certain critical value. A powder formed by the electrolytic technique is often dendritic or spongy in shape although considerable control of particle size and shape is possible. How To Cite Dante's Inferno. The specific properties of the powder depend on Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, the electrolytic bath conditions during deposition and on the subsequent processing steps. Moreover, it should be noted that there is a possibility of cosmogony, electrodeposition of metal powders with controlled grain size, morphology, and crystal structure of the particles by using electrodeposition at periodically changing rate. The electrolytic powder production method usually yields products of high purity, which can be well pressed and Skills 2000+ sintered. Besides, in recent years it has been shown that by different electrolysis regimes it is possible not only to obtain powders with a wide range of properties, but to predict the decisive characteristics of powders that are of vital importance for locke powder quality and for the final application. The processes of metal deposition can be categorized into three main groups each of which has different requirements with respect to Skills 2000+ Essay the physical state of the cathodic product.

In electroplating the crystal layer is Speech, required to be fine grained, smooth, strongly adhesive, and glassy, that is, to Essay be easily polished. It is define, obtained mainly from solutions of complex salts. In electrorefining and electrowinning relatively coarse grained, rough, but adhesive deposits are required. They have to be of high purity and firm enough to Essay endure handling before melting and casting into Essay on Have Day?, shapes suitable for further processing. They are obtained from solutions of simple salts.

In metal powder production by electrodeposition, a controlled product particle size is Employability Essay, necessary and it is desirable that the Recognition, product should not adhere, or adhere only weakly, to the cathode. Generally, powder production requires other conditions than those in electrowinning and electrorefining. Powders are obtained from Employability Skills 2000+, qualitatively the same, but less concentrated, solutions as used in electrowinning and are produced at higher current densities. The very earliest uses of metal powders have been traced to several parts of the world. For example, gold powder was fired onto jewelry by the Incas, and the Egyptian uses of iron powder date back to 3000 BC. During the 1800's, the use of powder metallurgy techniques began in earnest. Black silver powder was obtained using electrolysis as early as 1803 and was repeated few years later. Smee recognized, as early 1842, the main features of the dependence of Industry the Industrial, crystallite size on current density and concentration and he described the conditions under which black metals are formed, whose dark color he correctly explained as being caused by the very small size of the deposited particles. 2000+ Essay. The conditions of formation and the properties of electrolytic black silver powder were studied in detail already in the nineteenth century, and the growth of the highly dispersed deposits of silver and copper were followed under the microscope. Define Cosmogony. In an extended study of the electrodeposition of copper, the current densities above which copper is deposited in powder form were determined in 1886. Besides copper and silver, the nature and the causes of formation of zinc sponge have drawn the attention of various early investigators.

One process by which iron powder (mainly for magnets) was manufactured around 1920 was described in details. Essay. Further older work on the formation of powders, flakes, etc., of Essay Industry after the Industrial Revolution, various metals (lead-sponge, tungsten, platinum, etc.) is reported in a period up to 1925. Before 1910, many papers dealt in detail with the formation of electrolytic metal powders and sponges; however, this problem was rarely considered for its own sake between 1910 and 1935. After 1935, interest in the subject was strongly revived, owing to the rapid development of powder metallurgy. The theory of powder deposition started to develop much later, in the 1950's. Electrodeposition of metal powders evolved from an art to a science by the chapter of Ibl (1962) and Employability especially by the book of Calusaru (1979).

Calusaru reviewed all theoretical and practical knowledge up to 1979, and provided the john locke contract, basis for the scientific approach to the field. The essence of it is the conclusion that for electrochemical production of metal powders the corresponding electrochemical processes must be under diffusion control. The properties of Essay, metal powders depend on the properties of the powder particles, which, in on The Textile after the Industrial Revolution, turn, depend on the conditions of electrodeposition. Employability Skills. A methodology for modeling of contract theory, powder particles, and hence properties of the powder, for electrodeposition at a periodically changing rate was introduced by Popov and Pavlovic (1993). It seems that by using this procedure, powders with predetermined properties can be electrodeposited. The development of Employability Skills, this idea will probably be the future of electrochemical powder formation. Electrolytic fabrication techniques. It is possible to successfully produce powders of about 60 metals by electrolysis. Define. The majority of the metals are obtained by molten-salt electrolysis and powders of about 20 metals can be electrodeposited from aqueous solutions. However, while a larger number of metals can be obtained in powder form by Employability Essay molten-salt electrolysis, a much larger quantity of powders is produced by electrolysis from aqueous solutions.

This is Essay Textile, because the most important powders (copper, iron, and nickel) are obtained from aqueous solutions. (a) Overpotential; 200 mV, deposition time: 6 hours; (b) Overpotential: 300 mV, deposition time: 5 hours; (c) Overpotential: 700 mV, deposition time: 2 min. Electrolytic metal powder occurs mainly as a dendritic electrodeposit, which can spontaneously fall off or can be removed from the electrode by tapping or by other similar ways. (Also, the powder has a tendency to Skills 2000+ Essay form flakes or needles, fibrous or spongy forms, etc., depending on the electrodeposition process parameters and on the nature of the metal). In Figure 3, the polarization curve for copper electrodeposition is shown, as well as cross sections of electrodeposits obtained in john locke contract, different overpotential ranges. Three ranges have been determined according to deposit structure: (a) compact metal, (b) rough deposit, and (c) true powder. These results show clearly that a distinction has to be made between rough and powdery deposits. Obviously, the powder deposit is formed only at the end of the polarization curve plateau, at overpotential/ current density values larger than the critical values, as illustrated by Figure 3. Electrolytic powder can also be obtained by Employability 2000+ Essay electrodeposition at Recognition Systems a periodically changing (pulsating) rate. This method is based on the periodic repetition of current or overpotential waves. Employability 2000+ Essay. Deposition at a periodically changing rate offers a number of possibilities for changing the deposition conditions at the essentially same deposition rate. Speech In Hospitals. In this way, powder particles with different grain size and morphology can be obtained by varying the wave characteristics.

It seems in Employability 2000+, general, that the most pronounced effect can be achieved by the periodically changing regimes when the polarity of the current/voltage is reversed during the waves, resulting in an anodic dissolution of the deposit during parts of the wave. There are two effects of on The Industry after Revolution, metal dissolution during anodic parts of current-overpotential waves on the morphology of metal powder particles. First, sharp points on electrode surface (characterized by low radii of curvature) dissolve faster than the dull points (characterized by large radii of curvature). This way, branching of dendrites can be decreased and the formation of agglomerates prevented. This makes powder particles less dendritic and more compact. This is illustrated in Figure 7, indicating the transformation of the shape of dendritic powder particles of Employability Skills 2000+, lead due to the selective dissolution during the anodic current flow (compare the left and Textile Industry after Revolution right pictures in Figure 7). Second, the metal adatoms on the surface, which are not in stable positions, dissolve easier than atoms from the crystal lattice, permitting formation of ideal crystal planes on the powder particles. This is illustrated by Figure 8. The powder particles of silver obtained by Employability Essay pulsating and polarity-reversing techniques are almost small monocrystals (compare with deposits shown in Figure 4). Electrolysis conditions favoring diffusion control of cosmogony, electrodeposition enhance the formation of electrolytic metal powder. For example, decrease of metal salt concentration, increase of concentration of indifferent electrolyte, decrease of stirring rate, increase of 2000+, current density, decrease of temperature, and increase of on The Textile the Industrial, viscosity of solution are all factors favoring powder formation. Besides the above-mentioned factors, the structure of the deposit also depends on the individual nature of the metal and the salt species used in the electrolyte solution.

The process of electrolytic metal powder production consists of: powder electrolysis, washing and stabilizing, drying, classification (according to particle size), screening, blending, and Skills packing. Typical properties of electrolytic powders, as influenced by the conditions of Essay after Revolution, electrolysis, will be illustrated for electrolytic copper powder in the Appendix. When dealing with powders, the properties of Skills 2000+ Essay, both the individual particles and the collective (bulk) properties of the powder must be considered. The properties of single particles include size, shape, and sociology symbol microstructure, which can be determined by optical or scanning electron microscopic observations. For a bulk powder, characterization implies the determination of, at least, the Skills, following properties: Basic chemical composition (The minimum percentage of the base metal or percentages of main elements in case of metal alloy powders.) Impurities and minor constituents (The percentage of impurities.) Particle size distribution (Determination of chosen particle fractions, that is, that portion which lies between two stated particle sizes or mesh sizes.

Square-mesh metal net sieving is the most frequently used method to size powder particles ranging larger than 5 µm. Very fine powders are measured through sedimentation in water or other appropriate liquids or with air ventilation or the vacuum air-jet microsieve.) Specific surface (Powder specific surface is obtained adding together its granule surfaces contained in a mass unit and generally is expressed in cm 2 /g. The specific surface of metal powders is measured with permeameter-like devices, such as Lea and Nurse instrument, Blaine permeameter and the universally adopted Fischer Subsieve Sizer, and for very fine powders the gas adsorption method is adopted-BET method.) Apparent density (The weight per unit volume of a simply poured metal powder, which is always smaller than the density of the metal itself. It is measured letting the powder drop freely through a funnel to fill a 25 cm 3 cylindrical container. The ratio between mass and john locke contract theory volume, that is, apparent density, is provided through leveling and Employability Essay weighing and on Have Unions Had their Day? is expressed in g/cm 3 . The apparent density depends on a series of factors, the more important of which are as follows: metal true density, powder shape and structure, particle size distribution, corrosion resistance, etc.) Flowability (It is the speed at which powder flows through openings due to gravity. To assess the speed, standardized funnels with varying calibrated openings are used. A certain amount of powder is poured in Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, the funnel and the “flow time” is how to, recorded.) All these properties of the Skills Essay, electrodeposited metal powders are strongly, and in rather complicated manner, dependent on the conditions of electrolysis.

Some examples of the influence of electrolysis conditions are described in detail in the Appendix below. As mentioned above, the apparent density, the flowability, and the specific surface are the most important properties of metal powders, but in practice the quality of the powder is mostly determined by the apparent density. Define Cosmogony. The dependence of the apparent density on conditions of electrolysis is Essay, illustrated for copper powder deposition by the following diagrams. Locke Contract Theory. All conditions were kept constant as shown below, with the exception of the value of the test variable. Electrolyte composition: 5 g/l copper ions and 160 g/l sulphuric acid; cathodic current density: 0.3 A/cm 2 ; electrolyte flow rate: 0.17 l/min; time of powder removal (deposition time after which the powder is removed by brush or by tapping): 60 min; temperature: (50±2) o C or (122±4) o F. The above diagrams are in agreement with previous discussions of the effect of electrolysis conditions on Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, the metal powder formation.

In all cases the decrease of apparent density, hence the increase of dendritic character of powder particles, indicates the define cosmogony, increase of diffusion control of the deposition process. It is necessary to note that the above diagrams are valid only for 2000+ Essay process parameters indicated. A very small change of define, deposition conditions can considerably change the properties of the powder. Obviously, the powder particles from the same fractions of different powders occupy approximately the same volume, but with considerably different structure of Skills 2000+ Essay, metallic copper. It means that the more dendritic is the structure of sociology, powder particles the smaller is the apparent density of copper powder. It is possible to plot the dependence of apparent density on the specific surface copper powder as can be seen from Fig. 16. The larger is the specific surface the Skills 2000+, lower is the apparent density. This is also obvious from Fig. Cosmogony. 17.

The flowability of Skills 2000+, a metal powder depends on the interparticle friction, which is dominated by Essay on The Textile Industry after the Industrial Revolution the surface area and surface roughness of the particles. As the surface area and surface roughness increase, the amount of friction in the powder mass increases and Employability 2000+ Essay the powder exhibits less efficient flow. The same appears with the shape of particle. The more irregular the particles shape is, the less efficient is the powder flow. Resistance to flow is the sociology symbol, main feature of friction, which decreases as the particles approach a smooth spherical shape.

The effect of particle size distribution on Employability Skills 2000+, the powder flowability is also important. If the powder consists of particles with the same size, which are more or less in point contact with one another, making the contact surface as low as possible, even dendritic deposits can flow. If the powder consists of particles with different sizes, the interstitial voids of the larger particles can be filled by the smaller ones, the Essay Had their Day?, contact surface area increases, and the flow of the powder is less efficient. As a result of this, a non-sieved powder often does not flow, while the fractions of the same powder flow. Skills 2000+. Hence, the best conditions for Systems the free flow of the powder are fulfilled if the powder consists of particles with the same size, with spherical shape, and with a surface structure approaching the structure of a smooth metal surface. It can also be seen from Figures 17 and 18 that the surface structure of the Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, particles determines the flowability of the powder. On The Textile Industry After The Industrial. From Figures 17(left) and 18(left) is obvious that the interweaving of particles is not possible, hence the powder will flow. On the other hand, from Figure 17(right) and 18(right) can be seen that particles can interweave and the powder will not flow. The electrolytic metal powder is not formed of particles of identical size and morphology; the individual particles may assume various form and sizes, while the powders as associations of such particles exhibit, more or less, the same characteristics if are deposited under the identical conditions. Typical particle-size distribution curves for copper powders obtained at Skills two different current densities are shown in Figure 19.

It is observed from Figures 12 and 19 that the particle-size of dominant fraction decreases with increasing current density, and that particle-size distribution curve is in Hospitals, sharper. The 149-177 µm fraction of powder obtained at 0.18 A/cm 2 , presented in Figures 17(left) and Essay 18(left) exhibit excellent flowability while the non-sieved powder shown in Figure 19 does not flow. This is inferno, because the smaller particles can abridge the larger particles and the flow of powder is Employability Skills Essay, prevented. Hence, the surface structure of a non-sieved powder with good flowability must be more compact and smooth than the john contract, surface structure shown in Figures 17(left) and 18(left), such a powder is illustrated by Figure 20. The critical apparent density for free flowing non-sieved copper powder is about 2.2-2.3 g/cm 3 . Other properties of bulk powders can also be correlated with the properties of powder particles in a similar way. Fig. 3: K.I. Popov, M.G. Writing introductions to discussion essays. This is in Skills 2000+ Essay, response to a highly intelligent thread started in the forum by how to, one of the readers of this site. Are there particular skills you need for writing introductions to Employability 2000+ Essay, discussion essays? Here is how to inferno my response! The basics of an IELTS essay introduction. The place to start is to remember what the basics of an IELTS essay introduction are. These, I will stress, are guidelines not rules – there is always more than one way to do it: keep if brief: it is just the introduction, you want to spend most of your time on the main body paragraphs. I’d suggest you aim for 3 sentences, but in some cases 2 or 4 sentences can work. 2000+! I personally HATE one sentence introductions.

keep it clear : it is really important that the examiner knows what your essay will be about Essay after after she/he has read your introduction. Don’t try and be clever. Employability 2000+! Think clearly and aim to let the examiner know what you want say. Think is the important word in that sentence. identify the task : all IELTS essay questions ask you to write in a particular way: this is the task. Examples of this are “Say whether you agree or disagree about x”, or “Say what the causes of y are”. Day?! For me, it is 2000+ Essay really important to Essay on Have Unions, put this in Employability, the intro because if you don’t your essay may not answer the question. A huge mistake. identify your point of view : this is sociology what some teachers call “thesis statement”.

I don’t. Employability 2000+ Essay! The idea is that what you think should be clear throughout the Essay Textile after, essay. That means you want to give your answer in the introduction and not just the conclusion. Is writing introductions to discussion essays special? I don’t think so. I know lots of candidates and teachers like to categorise essays. Personally, I’m not sure that this is necessary. Better I think to have one set of guidelines and answer the Employability, question in front of you.

Much simpler that way. It is also much more likely to get you a good score. There are no marks for Recognition Systems, writing a “discussion essay”, there are only marks for answering the question. So focus on that. Please avoid “In this essay I will discuss”

This is something I personally hate. Much more importantly, it is an example of tired language that almost all IELTS examiners hate too – they want to see you use your own words and not “learned language” . I will show you some examples of how to do this below. Top tip – learn to write different introductions. A lot of IELTS essays go wrong because students try to 2000+ Essay, write a particular type of essay that they have practised before. Then they get a question in on The Textile Industry after the Industrial, the test that doesn’t quite fit the model. They try to Employability Essay, repeat a form of essay they have learned and Systems, fail to answer the question. To avoid this it really helps to learn different ways of doing the Employability Essay, same thing.

Learn how to john theory, write introductions that are two and three sentences long. Two examples of introductions to Employability 2000+, discussion essays. This is the original task posted by Rohit, read my intro: Some people think that the teenage years are the happiest times of define cosmogony, most people’s lives. Others think that adult life brings more happiness, in Essay, spite of greater responsibilities. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

There are different views about whether people are happier as teenagers or in adulthood. While there is something to be said for the idea that the teenage years can be extremely happy, my view is cosmogony that most people achieve greater satisfaction later in life when they have a career and a family of their own. This is only two sentences long. that can be fine. There are very few rules remember. I clearly identify the Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, task. My point of Systems in Hospitals, view is Skills 2000+ clear too – I also show that I will be talking about the family and careers too. Neat. Note how I use while to connect the two different views I need to how to cite dante's inferno, discuss. Excellent for your grammar and helpful for Employability Essay, this task.

The logical structure of the essay will be one para about how childhood can be best and another about the joys of being 40! Then when I write my conclusion I simply come back to my intro. This is a slightly more complex question, but asked in the same way: There is an increasing shortage of housing in on The after, many countries. Some people believe that governments should build more housing in the countryside, while others believe that this would damage the natural environment. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. Most people would accept that some action needs to be taken about the Employability 2000+ Essay, chronic housing shortage that is threatening so many countries around the world. One logical solution to this problem would be to create more housing in the countryside which is relatively underpopulated.

My view, however , is that this would lead to cosmogony, serious damage to the environment and alternative options need to be found. See how this introduction is three sentences long. It is still clear and Employability 2000+ Essay, simple though. This is the situation. Here is a solution. This is what I think about the solution. I am still discussing both view and giving my opinion. Just in a different way. See how I link the different part of my introduction together with this and however. You want to make sure that your introduction is well-written. Don’t write too quickly.

Just like the previous introduction, I Identify the task and I clearly state my view. I am not afraid to use personal opinion language – indeed I really need to because the question asks me what I think. If you like you can leave me an define introduction as a comment to this lesson. The alternative is to pop into the forum and post there. 2000+! Actually, I’d prefer that as that would allow you to share your language and ideas better. If you follow my advice, you will: write 2/3 introductions – don’t bother with the whole essay – focussing on sociology symbol, a skill is better for learning write different types of introduction – this will help in the test – you can’t predict the question you will have.

More advice on IELTS task 2 writing. If you like this lesson, why not share it? Get more help with IELTS preparation on the main pages of my site. Thanks Dominic for the wonderful lesson! Earlier, I always tried to categorize the essay questions and focused on cosmogony, using different learned languages from Skills Essay, internet. Now, after this lesson I start thinking in different direction.

I really feel easier and more confident now to Speech Systems in Hospitals, answer the essay question which satisfy the Employability Skills 2000+, task response. I hope I can satisfy the examiner now completely from the Essay Had their Day?, Task Response point of view. However, I believe much practice is still required to stay on the task response through all parts of the essay. Excellent. Skills 2000+ Essay! I hope it works for define cosmogony, you. Different things do work for different people. I’m not wholly against categorising different types of questions and I know it does work for some people. 2000+ Essay! I’m not sure if this makes sense but I think the best way ahead is to see that there are different types of question, practise thinking and writing about those types of questions but concentrate on john contract theory, using good essays writing skills. I do have another – rather old – lesson on this that I need to review. I’ll try and post again on this in the near future. Hi Dominic, I just learned about your website today and I am very impressed with the contents and techniques.

I am planning to Skills 2000+ Essay, write my IELTS on May 10th for the first time. I got 95 in john locke contract, my TOEFL last December with 23 in reading. Skills 2000+ Essay! My weakness is also writing. I am familiar with writing hospital charts and reports but seems to having difficulty with IELTS/TOEFL writing. I am hoping to learn more from your site to score at least 7. Thanks again. Best of luck. Do let me know how it goes. I guess you’re a doctor – a breed I know well being married to one – that may be the problem in writing. What I mean is that you may just be too academic/intelligent for IELTS.

In a way, you need to on The, forget academic training and go back to school. If you learn to Skills Essay, keep it simple, then progress may be faster. hi dear Dominic, i receive your website address from Speech in Hospitals, dr Andalibi. i found it something. here i wrote an introductory for that topic: There is an inseparable part of our life, unforgettable memories, lots of energy; I mean teenage times. sometimes it is Employability Skills jumping step for our adulthood or prevent us for our goals. I am looking forward to your reply. Problems I’m afraid. Cite Dante's! My best advice in this case is to keep your language simpler. Essay! Say what the issue is and then say what you think about sociology it. Also a major problem is that you are not really writing in sentences.

Hi Dear Dominic, Last few days, i have been spending most of my free time trying to Skills 2000+, find the an sociology symbol answer “how to write essay” ” where to find the ideas” etc. for IELTS test as i am finding very hard the writing tasks of IELTS. I don’t even know where to start. I read dozens of iELTS writing task samples but every time i sat down to Employability Skills, write, nothing comes to my mind. I am very happy that i found your website as you find time and effort to theory, answer every question. Please, Help!

Where should i start? What it would be the first step to write a successful essay. I really do hope for your answer. Thank you very much. Can I direct you to this lesson? and this may help too. If in doubt, just look for the search box at the top left of the site.

There are around 600 lessons here. Sometimes not easy to find – the site is so big nowadays. i hope my better answer simple ist easy. Why the hate for ‘In this essay I will discuss…’ sentences? I often encourage my students to introduce their essay using a similar structure to ‘The following essay will…’ or ‘The purpose of this essay is…’, as that’s a very common feature of abstracts and introductions in (English language) academia, at the level of student essays and also in academic journals. It may be formulaic but the whole structure of a 3-part essay is formulaic isn’t it? I’d welcome your comments on this. Apologies for 2000+ Essay, the late reply but I’ve only just found this.

I do say it’s a personal opinion! To expand on cosmogony, the reason I state above it’s a formula that I believe is overused especially in IELTS. 1. IELTS essays are not “academic essays” by any means, rather they are English language test essays. It seems slightly bonkers to introduce the language of academic papers into this format. More to Skills Essay, the point if you do, then you should consistently use that level of language throughout the essay. 2. It is very often wrongly used. i.e. Revolution! The formula doesn’t fit the question. 3. By using this formula students very frequently fail to outline their position in the introduction. Most examiners I know look for a clear statement of the 2000+, writer’s position in define, the intro – there is justification for this in the examining criteria. if you use this language, then that position is often unclear or resolves down to 2000+ Essay, a unsatisfactory “I’m going to talk about”.

4. Cite! I dislike this kind of Employability 2000+ Essay, formulaic approach. The best essays are almost never formulaic – they address the question directly. My experience of IELTS candidates is that the more they tend towards a formula the less they engage with the question. The formula can ensure they maintain a certain standard but progress stops. I have tried using your tips. Could you please comment on symbol, my introduction.

Thank you. “There are different views whether everyone has the rights to enter a university or college program regardless their academic abilities. While other people think that this is not possible and only suitable candidates should be allowed to. In my point of view, higher level education may not be suitable for everyone when there are possibly better pathways for them.” Hi Dominic Cole. I am from Hong Kong; I am looking for 2000+ Essay, tips for my promotion writing examination and here I have found your site.

I really appreciate you have shared various brilliant ideas and tips on locke contract, writing essays. 2000+ Essay! I found it very helpful. Thank you so much. Hello Dominic, thanks for Recognition, such a great web site, please, would you mind to check my intro ? ” successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in Essay, other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair” The view that sports professionals receive an income higher than other careers has generated controversy. While there are those who say this is cite fairly fair, I shall argue that there are strong reasons why state should regulate this situation. Please evaluate the below introduction paragraph for the housing topic mentioned above: Due to Essay, proliferation of population, there is define a deficiency of Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, homes in many countries. Some people are expecting from the government to how to dante's, construct homes in the countryside which would lead to serious damage to the environment.

Instead, my view is that government should build the multistorey apartments to accomodate people in the cities. Sorry I simply don’t have the time to look at individual answers. But thank you for posting I’m sure others can learn from this. Could you please help me check my introduction? Thanks in advance,

Topic: There is an Skills Essay increasing shortage of housing in cosmogony, many countries. Some people believe that governments should build more housing in the countryside, while others believe that this would damage the Employability 2000+, natural environment. Discuss both these views and give your opinion. In the how to dante's inferno, contemporary world these day, the lack of accommodation is a global issue. While some people hold the view that the authorities can tackle this problem by constructing more housing in suburb, as far as I am concern, this solution will play havoc with the environment with serious damage. Sorry I simply don’t have the Employability Essay, time to locke contract theory, look at individual answers.

But thank you for posting I’m sure others can learn from this. hi diminic,i found ur website realy helpful. hers my intro fo hapines task. there are different views regarding the age when people feel happier themselves either childhood or adulthood. While i accept that people are more satisfied at Employability 2000+, their achieving age say in adulhood.I ,however, holds the opinion that people found themselves more happy at young age ,being free of responsibilities and stresses of life. intro fo house shortage snerio. House shortage is how to cite becoming pressing issue round the globe and demands serious actions to b taken to Employability Skills 2000+, mitigate it. Some people hold the sociology symbol, opinion of building new houses in sburb which seems a logical soluton but in my view , in order to save our natural environment, few alternatives need to b considered. Sorry I simply don’t have the time to look at individual answers. But thank you for Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, posting I’m sure others can learn from this. First introduction about people thinking: the people are different in thinking of which age is the best for symbol, them. Most people said teenagers is the best because they do not have any responsilbilities.

Others think that if you are responsible you are happy and i agree. In the life there is part of your life is the best. Some said that teenagers is the Employability 2000+ Essay, best but others said the responsible life is better. I agree with this opinion in this part of life you will attend a lot of achievment depend on locke, hard work in the past.

It is important to realise that this is a skill which has to be learnt and practised, and Essay Had their Day?, that therefore you should apply yourselves from the very beginning, as you will be writing essays for which you will be graded from the Skills Essay early weeks to the very end of your degree programme. These skills will be used by you regularly once you leave university, no matter what path you choose to take. Essay writing involves presenting an sociology argument and communicating. It can be easily imagined that this covers a vast variety of scenarios in which you need to be clear and persuasive : arguing that you should be given the job you are applying for, selling the outline of a film script you have written, presenting products at various forums, writing articles for 2000+ publication, persuading your bank manager to extend your loan, preparing reports, beginning and sustaining your career in journalism, and writing lectures and class plans for john your future students.

The list is endless, and it is obvious that the way you present your arguments in 2000+ Essay, written form can make the difference between success and failure - in which case you will have to think again. In some of the scenarios outlined above the skills required for essay writing should be slightly adapted but the basic skills and methods are in the main common to all forms of formal writing in which an argument or arguments need to be presented. The focus here is primarily on writing essays concerning literature. You may have many great ideas and be a very intuitive and fine reader of literature, but no-one will ever know if you cannot express your ideas properly and your communicative skills are not developed. It is no good carrying around insights into Essay on The after the Industrial, a particular piece of Employability Skills 2000+ Essay literature if you do not put efforts into presenting them clearly . Sociology! Some of the following may be obvious, but the points need to be emphasised and consulted each time you are preparing an Employability essay. The comments are based on years of experience of reading student essays, good, bad, and indifferent at the University of Liège. An essay should not be merely a list. Too many in the past have been a list of how to cite inferno notes, or a series of sub-headings followed by a list of Skills 2000+ dashes (-) or stars (*) accompanied by john contract theory one or two words and/or quotations from the literary text with no explanation of what they are doing there. Let us be blunt here and state that we tutors are not impressed by indiscriminate underlining and the use of different coloured pens. Sub-headings written in magenta, underlined in ochre, followed by a list of quotations in Employability 2000+, vermilion are pointless. We are not tricked by Essay on The Textile Revolution attempts to distract us, through dazzling visual displays, from the fact that an Employability 2000+ Essay essay is poor.

An essay should be the development of argument, interpretation and analysis through extended and flowing narrative . To do this you need to work at the level of the sentence, of course, but also, very importantly, you need to Essay on The Textile Industry work at the level of the paragraph . The paragraph is Skills 2000+ Essay, a coherent passage of logically connected sentences usually concentrating on no more than one or two ideas relevant to your argument. Do not use very short and unconnected staccato sentences. It takes experience and practice to develop a sense of Recognition Systems when a new paragraph is needed and when it has been finished. Employability Skills 2000+ Essay! Examine the introduction to this booklet and this guide to get some sense of how paragraphs, or ' idea units ' as they have also been called, can be developed and constructed, and how their 'natural' beginnings and ends appear. The first sentence of the paragraph should generally be a 'strong' one, used to signal or indicate the idea to be discussed within the paragraph. Think of a 'topic sentence', as it has also been called, which will highlight the main areas examined in a particular paragraph. Connecting and signposting words and phrases should be learnt, used, practised and developed (examples are 'furthermore', 'moreover', 'in addition', 'to qualify the above', 'however', 'in order to', 'in this connection', 'having established that' etc.). The argument should develop through the language you use and therefore in a short essay sub-headings are unnecessary. Several stages are involved in essay preparation, choosing which points are to be considered, deciding how you will deal with them, and the actual writing.

As you gain more experience you will find methods and ways of sociology symbol working which suit you, your personality and Employability 2000+ Essay, lifestyle. Generally, however, the process will involve the Essay on The Textile Industry after the Industrial following. Essay! You should examine carefully the statements made in the essay question , making sure you understand each word and what is being asked, as misreading and how to cite inferno, misunderstanding at Employability Skills Essay this stage can be fatal. Essay questions can be very general, very specific and sometimes deliberately provocative, and john, an understanding of Employability Skills 2000+ Essay them is essential. Read through notes you may have made in class, start to gather other relevant source material , and make notes about the literary text you are examining. Ask yourself the questions suggested earlier in the introduction to this booklet, concerning style, content, and imagery etc. Next you will probably want to identify the key points that you want to Had their Day? discuss. There may be many points you find generally interesting, but ask yourself if they are relevant to the essay in question. To do this it can be useful to try to think of 2000+ Essay a title for your essay.

This is not to be confused with the essay question or title, but is concerned with your response to the task set. What title would best give the reader an overview of your approach and analysis, and highlight the main points you examine and the conclusions you reach? (Suggestions concerning conclusions will be given later). You should not assume that an essay has to include and cover all the possible points an interpretation may offer up. A short, well organised and structured essay focusing on some of the main points is far better than an over-long and unwieldy attempt to say a little about everything. You may find it useful to state in the introduction which points you are focusing on and why. Keep your reader informed of the development of your argument. Let her or him know which direction is being taken and the reasons why.

Once the main points have been identified you need to consider in which order they will be examined. Symbol! Students often do not make the Essay most of the good ideas they have because they get lost if the argument does not develop coherently. Good points are also often thrown away or wasted because students do not say enough about them. Make sure the symbol relevance of each point to the main argument is clearly stated and demonstrated. You should dwell and linger on the points: often this requires no more than two or three extra sentences, particularly if your writing is concise and Essay, focused. A good essay takes time to prepare and write, so start to think about it and do the groundwork well ahead of the essay deadline (even in timed conditions, such as exams, it is important to take the Unions Day? time to organise and structure the essay before starting to write). You will probably find that you need to work out your ideas on paper before writing the essay, and are encouraged to prepare an outline of the essay: a point by point series of key words, phrases and ideas. Employability Essay! This will help you to john locke contract organise the structure and to recognise what is relevant and irrelevant to the essay as a whole. Some people find that a plan or outline will consist of eight to ten words only. Others find it more useful to draw up very detailed plans, outlining every paragraph and its contents. Again you will discover which method works for you as you go along.

Some students find it easier to think and plan the essay point by point before beginning to write, whilst others find that after some initial preparation, reading, organisation and 2000+, thinking they can only develop their ideas through writing. Speech Recognition Systems! Both these approaches take time, if the essays are to be done well. It should be stressed here that the first plan does not have to be binding and may change as the work begins and develops. The main point here is Skills, that essays involve a certain amount of planning and preparation even before the on The Industry after the Industrial actual writing begins. Employability Essay! Having emphasised that essays are hard work and take time it should also be stressed that it can be very stimulating and rewarding to work through a number of ideas in depth and detail. Literary texts and literary language are potentially very complex, inspiring, and beautiful. The ideas and cosmogony, images often demand careful thought and attention. Computers are essential in terms of using the time you spend on an essay efficiently and productively.

As stated earlier, good essay writing demands time spent on every stage of the process: reading and research, making an outline, ordering and structuring your ideas, writing and changing various drafts, and final editing and Essay, presentation. With this in mind it cannot be stressed enough how important it is for you to Essay Industry the Industrial Revolution learn word-processing skills and to make sure you have access to a computer. Skills 2000+! Use the university resources. Admittedly the space available is limited at times but this is no excuse not to learn the skills, if you do not already possess them, and to find out where there are available computer terminals. Of course if you use university resources it is even more important to start your essay early in cite inferno, order to avoid the last minute rush as most students, not only from this department, search for terminals in a panic on the Friday before a Monday deadline. It is appreciated that students are very busy and do have a lot of work, but it is a mistake to claim, as some students have been heard, that they are too busy to learn word-processing skills.

Ultimately word-processing will save you a lot of time. It is far easier to Employability Skills 2000+ Essay add and delete material, and to restructure and reorganise essays by moving material around, on a computer than if you are writing by hand. Software has become really user-friendly; 'Word', for instance, will tell you what to do in explicit English or French, and typing skills can be learned whilst typing. Your essay will be the representation of an argument on a given subject or subjects . It will include only inferno, points which are relevant to Employability the subject, so be careful to inferno get rid of material that is not directly relevant. Although students complain that essays are too long, most of the essays you will write are really relatively short. Part of the skill of Skills writing is to define cosmogony write concisely and Employability, economically , without wasting material or 'padding' the work with irrelevant diversions and how to dante's, repetition. Once the points have been chosen they should be presented logically and coherently , so do not leap about from point to point. Each point generally will have some connection to the preceding one and the one to follow.

If you do leave one area of the essay to move into another, but intend later to go back to Employability the point you have left and inferno, show, for example, how the Employability 2000+ points may be connected or related, then it can be useful to say so by 'signposting', e.g. 'this point will be picked up later', 'this point will be returned to later, after taking into consideration . '. After each draft of the john locke essay check that each point is Skills, presented in a logical and coherent order. Read each draft carefully and critically. Is there a significant idea you have not included in the essay? Do you need to expand some of the points you have chosen to write about? Are some of the points, after due consideration, not really relevant? Have you been too long-winded or repetitive? If so, cut out and/or reduce some of the text. Does your argument need to be clearer, and Unions Had their Day?, do the Employability links between some of the main points need more emphasis? You should be asking yourself these questions throughout the whole process.

A particularly distressing weakness in the past, but hopefully not the future, has been the absence of serious discussion of imagery and literary language . Some students have merely stated that the author uses imagery, illustrated this with an example, and then moved on cosmogony, to the next point on Employability, the list. If you discuss images, metaphors and other literary devices, then say how and why they are being used in the piece of after the Industrial Revolution fiction, and maybe if you think the imagery works or not. If you do not say how and why an image is being used then don't mention it. Essay! You will not write good work on literature if you approach an essay as some useless game of 'spot the image'. Throughout your years at Essay after the Industrial Revolution the University of Liège you will be writing essays on Employability Skills 2000+ Essay, literature which will inevitably include numerous quotations , either from the literature you are working on or from secondary sources, be they books or articles on historical context, literary criticism or other relevant areas. These quotations can obviously add much to the texture and quality of your work, but they are often handled very badly by students. Do not assume that a good quotation will do all the work you want by itself. Essay Had Their! Poor essays are often merely a patchwork of quotations stitched together by Skills the briefest of comments, and it is a mistake to leave quotations hanging in mid-air, as it were, without comment or explanation. Essay Revolution! Quotations need to Essay be framed. They should be introduced, not mechanically, but within a context provided by the logical development of your argument . ( See Example 1 at the end of this guide). You should also provide some commentary on the quotations, particularly if they include difficult and/or controversial ideas or material.

This is often likely to locke contract theory be the case as there is really little point in Employability Essay, including 'bland' quotations in your essay. You may want to gloss, explain, qualify or modify the symbol quoted words, or you may have included quotations whose assumptions or arguments you strongly disagree with. The latter case can be useful, if handled well. Often an argument can be developed through contrast with opposing or differing arguments. This tactic in essay construction also displays independent thinking in that it demonstrates that you have not unthinkingly accepted and believed everything you have read. One final point on quotations: do not plagiarise . Using other people's work without saying so is a serious crime. Tutors have read widely on the subjects you will be writing on Employability Skills 2000+, and are very likely to recognise when you are plagiarising. If you use other people's ideas and words they have to be acknowledged through proper footnoting and cite dante's, referencing . ( See Example 2 at the end of this guide).

Essays need a conclusion , which for the sake of clarity should be relatively short. 2000+! It is generally best not to include new ideas or new material in john locke theory, your concluding comments, particularly since many people think that a conclusion should be a summary of the prior arguments. You may, however, point to alternative conclusions or arguments, or briefly suggest areas of interest that have not been dealt with directly by the essay. People often get the wrong idea about conclusions and Employability 2000+, believe that this is the place to Essay Unions Day? state firm convictions, and that a conclusion has to make a stand and come down on the side of one argument or another. This can be the case but it is not necessarily so. If an essay title comes in the form of a question, for example 'Is James Joyce seeking to distance himself from traditional forms of Irish culture?', and 2000+, you cannot decide, do not think that this is a problem. It is as much a sign of intelligence to state that you cannot decide as it is to sift through the inferno evidence and 2000+ Essay, decide one way or the other.

Think about why you cannot decide. Perhaps the evidence is conflicting. Perhaps the literary text and its use of imagery is ambiguous, or even contradictory; as is often the case. If you cannot decide, then say so, outlining why you cannot decide. Alternatively, you may partly agree or partly disagree with the locke statements or questions raised by the title , or by questions raised directly in responding to the title.

If so, say so. A forced conclusion to an essay can be as bad as the essay having no concluding remarks at all. In connection to the last point it should be emphasised that any essay should be about your ideas and your interpretation of the Employability Skills Essay literature being studied . Of course your ideas may, and indeed should, develop through discussions with friends, fellow students, tutors and through the consultation of books and articles, but it is your ideas which should form the basis of the essay. Whilst you will use material that is not your own, it is the way that you use, add to, adapt and modify this material that makes the argument your own and original. Your own voice should be heard. This needs to be qualified by the understanding that there is a particular form and style in academic writing . This is generally formal, analytical , and 'serious' rather than colloquial, emotional and conversational . John Contract Theory! Your voice and your ideas need to be heard, but be careful of Employability Essay cultivating an overly idiosyncratic, 'individual' style. Remember that in writing you are communicating and that therefore your argument should be clearly expressed. This does not mean you should be simplistic: it is a very important skill to express complex ideas with clarity.

One final point needs to be made on define cosmogony, the subject of the Skills 2000+ essays you write being about your ideas. Some of define cosmogony you may find this an extraordinary statement but it is a bad idea to tailor and construct your essay around what you believe your tutor or the head of the course thinks about the text, and what you think she or he wants to hear. If you have different methods or your interpretations differ from those of the tutor, then develop them happily. Remember that essay writing is Employability Skills, all about presenting an argument and sociology, using evidence from the text and elsewhere to back up your statements, and if you do this well you will be given credit for Employability Skills Essay it whether or not the tutor agrees with the overall argument. It is Essay on Have, not particularly interesting for tutors to read in essays only 2000+ Essay, what they have said in class, particularly if this is reproduced in sociology, a flat, unconvincing, and unconvinced manner. Of course you may agree and be persuaded by arguments and interpretations outlined in class but if you do not believe the arguments you reproduce in Skills, the essay it will be obvious and the tutor will wonder why you bothered to include them. You will write a better essay if you are focusing on how to, your own ideas, developed through discussion and reading, not least because you will be enthused by 2000+ Essay them. Eventually your ideas will be thought through, outlines planned and re-planned, main points developed, written down on paper, then rewritten, and finally given to your tutor.

Nevertheless your work on Speech Recognition, the essay has not yet finished. Once the essay has been graded and returned it is Skills 2000+ Essay, very important that you do not merely look at the grade you have received before putting it at the bottom of your files. Read through your tutor's comments carefully, and make sure you understand exactly why you have received the grade you have, even if you are happy with it. Sociology Symbol! If you do not understand why, or you are not sure about your tutor's comments, then ask. If it is not possible to ask during class or you would prefer to Employability Essay talk privately go to your tutor during office hours, or make an Recognition Systems appointment if these clash with other classes. Employability Skills 2000+! Writing is a skill which has to be learnt and sociology, practised, it is an ongoing process and you will learn more each time. Follow up work once the essay has been returned is an Skills 2000+ important part of this process. Example 1: Using Quotations. The extract below, from a paper on Muriel Spark's The Prime of Essay on Have Had their Day? Miss Jean Brodie , shows how quotations can be used. Because the Employability Skills Essay paper quotes from the novel extensively, page numbers are found within the main body of the Essay on Have Had their Day? text, in parentheses, after complete bibliographical details have been provided in a footnote to the first quotation.

Quotations from secondary sources are referenced by footnotes. Short quotations are included, in Skills 2000+ Essay, quotation marks, within the main body of the paper, whilst the longer quotation, without quotation marks, makes up an indented paragraph. Note that even when the writing by the author of the paper is combined with quotations from the novel and secondary sources the define sentences are still grammatically correct and coherent. Jean Brodie is Employability Skills Essay, convinced of the rightness of her own power, and uses it in a frightening manner: 'Give me a girl at Recognition in Hospitals an impressionable age, and Skills, she is mine for life'. 1 This is Miss Brodie's adoption of the Jesuit formula, but, whereas they claim the Recognition Systems in Hospitals child for God, she moulds the child for Employability 2000+ Essay her own ends. 'You are mine,' she says, '. of my stamp and Textile after Revolution, cut . ' (129). When Sandy, her most perceptive pupil, sees the 'Brodie set' 'as a body with Miss Brodie for the head' (36), there is, as David Lodge points out, a biblical parallel with the Employability Church as the body of Christ. 2 God is on Have Unions Had their Day?, Miss Jean Brodie's rival, and this is demonstrated in Employability Skills, a literal way when one of her girls, Eunice, grows religious and is preparing herself for confirmation. She becomes increasingly independent of Miss Brodie's influence and decides to go on Speech Recognition Systems, the Modern side in the Senior school although Jean Brodie makes clear her own preference for the Classical. Essay! Eunice refuses to continue her role as the group's jester, or to go with them to the ballet. Cunningly, her tutor tries to regain control by playing on her religious convictions: All that term she tried to inspire Eunice to dante's inferno become at Skills Essay least a pioneer missionary in some deadly and dangerous zone of the sociology earth, for it was intolerable to Miss Brodie that any of Essay her girls should grow up not largely dedicated to some vocation. 'You will end up as a Girl Guide leader in john theory, a suburb like Corstorphine', she said warningly to Eunice, who was in fact secretly attracted to this idea and who lived in Corstorphine. (81)

Miss Brodie has different plans for Rose; she is to be a 'great lover' (146), and her tutor audaciously absolves her from the sins this will entail: 'she is above the moral code, it does not apply to her' (146). This dismissal of 2000+ Essay possible retribution distorts the girls' judgement of Miss Brodie's actions. The above passage is taken from john locke Ruth Whittaker, The Faith and Fiction of Muriel Spark (London and Basingstoke: MacMillan, 1982), pp.106-7. Example 2: Laying out a bibliography. The bibliography will usually include the relevant sources consulted in 2000+, producing your essay , even if you have not referred to or quoted from them directly. The order is alphabetical and on Have Unions, determined by the authors' names. Book titles appear in italics or are underlined , whilst article titles appear in 2000+, inverted commas.

When referring to books you should include the author's name, place of publication, the publisher, and the date when the Essay Unions book was published. To reference the source of an article from a journal include the name of the journal, the number and/or volume number, the date of publication and the page numbers. There are several styles for laying out Employability a bibliography, but the on Have Had their same elements appear in each, and you must be consistent.
